Swaddling literally means wrapping someone in a piece of cloth. The first thing that comes to your mind with that word is ‘swaddling’ a baby. Especially the newborns! Who needs swaddling more than those little cute tads? Swaddling makes a baby feel comfortable by giving him a touch which is more like that of a womb.
The swaddle-experience is similar to that of a cuddle with the additional advantage where the baby wrapper provides a smoother touch to the baby and can make him relax for hours together. He can sleep at ease without being in the arms of an adult.
Is swaddling good for your baby?
Yes, certainly! If you know the art of swaddling and have comfortable baby bedding sets, it can be quite soothing for your baby and can help him sleep sound for hours straight.
Steps to swaddle a baby
Place the baby wrapper in a kite-shaped manner. Now take the top corner and fold it down, towards the centre. After you are done with the first step, lay your baby affectionately on the wrapper, with his head on the upper folded edge.
As you lay the baby on the wrap, make sure his arms are straight on either side. Now take the right corner of the wrap and pull it across the baby’s body, sticking it in on the left side at his buttock. The baby’s now half wrapped into the snuggly swaddle. Now, take the lower corner of the blanket and pull it upwards, towards the centre. There is just one side open towards the left now. Take it and wrap it across the baby’s body towards the right. Make sure the wrapper is big enough so that the left corner is wrapped around the body and can be tucked at the front, like a belt.
The important thing here is to ensure that the baby’s arms are straight across either side of his body. So that he doesn’t move too much and get the swaddle off of him.

Although, a lot of people buy these wrappers and blankets, they fail to understand the art of swaddling, which results in uncomfortable early days for the newborns. So, in case you’re going to be a parent anytime soon, make sure you know the ‘Swaddle-Art’.
